In many African countries, farmers have insufficient access to real-time agricultural price information. They are often subject to low farm-gate prices offered by traders.

Since most farmers in rural areas have access to FM radio, this is an ideal medium to transmit accurate price information in a local language. Additionally, traders in urban areas can also benefit from price information throughout the country.

Farmers are updated weekly by FM radio on prices for 23 agricultural products in 19 markets throughout Uganda. Prices are also published in newspapers and available online and by SMS. This system is now linked to regional commodity trading systems/exchanges. e.g. www.tradeafrica.biz & www.ratin.net
